Students at The Westwood Academy caught-up on Maths and English at the summer school.
A school in Coventry has collaborated with a national training provider to provide a summer school experience for learners.
The summer schools by The Westwood Academy and PET-Xi helped students catch-up with after time out of the classroom due to COVID-19.
Lessons covered Maths and English as well as a number of enrichment activities to a group of Year 8 and 9 pupils, to both boost their knowledge and increase their confidence.
Michael Irvine, Deputy Head at The Westwood Academy, said: “We absolutely love working with PET-Xi – the team’s professionalism, skills and approachability make the whole learning experience a joy to be part of.
“Pupils get so much from this supplementary educational offer. We also took the opportunity to mix the two year groups, meaning that pupils were able to work alongside their peers but also interact, learn from each other and make new friends.
They have gained new insight into progressive learning in both Maths and English alongside fun and challenging enrichment activities. An added bonus for all has been no school uniform!”

“PET-Xi’s innovative approach to teaching and learning ensures that they not only quickly learn new skills, but thoroughly enjoy their educational progression and achievement during the week. The programme also included daily confidence tests designed to both boost confidence and evidence progress, and this group did exceptionally well.
“It’s a fantastic way for the schools to make the most of the catch-up funding they have been awarded, and help learners transition into their next year group after they have spent so much time out of the classroom.”
Coventry-based PET-Xi has been taken on by secondary schools across the country to deliver similar summer school programmes.
