Support provided by PET-Xi
The Brunts Academy invited in educational training providers PET-Xi, which had just launched a pilot one-day English course for more able KS3 learners called ‘Missing’ which provides an exciting and challenging method of exercising the interpersonal skills necessary for university and the workplace. Helen Taylor was excited by the idea of The Brunts Academy being the first school to trial it nationally.
While the school had always run additional projects for its lower and middle ability students, up until this point there had been nothing for gifted and more able learners. However, Head Teacher, Carl Atkin, was keen to invest in this particular group of students as the school wanted to raise the standards of achievement further.
“The ‘Missing’ programme fired the students’ imagination and they responded positively. It took students out of their comfort zone, put them under pressure and presented them with a number of challenges.”
